E-bikes 

  • Have a maximum continuous rated power of 250 watts
  • Have a motor that cuts off when you stop pedaling
  • Have front and rear lights
  • Are treated as regular bicycles and can use cycle lanes and bus lanes

E-mopeds 

  • Are more powerful electric bicycles
  • Are categorized as mechanically propelled vehicles (MPVs)
  • Require insurance, registration, and licensing
  • Are subject to different regulations than e-bikes
